book reveiw:

A book that I've read recently is Forgotten by Cat Patrick. I really enjoyed this book because it's so original. it's about a girl called London who can see her future, but not her past. she can see the future in flashes, like we would see our memories. For example, she can see what she will wear tomorrow, but can't remember anything about yesterday. So she records everything about her day and everything she'll need to know the next day in her notes.

London starts to 'remember' a funeral sometime in the future and she's not sure who it's for. So naturally, she begins to panic, until she figures out the funeral is in her past, not her future. What she's seeing is her family burying her younger brother who she can't remember. Her mum chose to let her forger her brother, instead of facing the pain of remembering him. But London decides she owes her brother to at least remember him.

I really loved this book, and so did all my friends when they read it.

most inspiring teacher:

A teacher that inspired me was Mrs Irwin. She was my teacher for two years in intermediate. She inspired me to do well in high school. She pushed me to be my best in year 7 and 8. I still go back to talk to her about my achievements at high school.

Olympic opinions:

The Olympics is the pinnacle of any athletes career. They train all their life for the chance to represent their country at the worldwide event. There is a wide range of sports to compete in, so any kind of athlete can compete. One sport which is not included in the games is netball, even though it is played by many people all around the world... so why isn't it included in the Olympic games?

The main reason is that netball is that netball is predominately a woman's sport, although there are some men's teams. Also, the fact that it isn't necessarily a global sport is a contributing factor to its omission. However, netball has been played at the Commonwealth games since 1993. It's staggering that netball has been overlooked in the Olympics, when a movement to include the game failed. Although woman's boxing succeeded as it has been included in the 2012 Olympics. Maybe we should push to get netball included in the next Olympics.

olympic moment-

One of the greatest moment in Olympic history was when the Olympic Gymnastics team won the gold for the USA in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. The event is known as the Magnificent Seven, referring to the gymnastics team; Shannon Miller, Dominique Moceanu, Dominique Dawes, Kerri Strung, Amy Chow, Amanda Borden and Jacie Phelps.
I think this is a great Olympic moment because on Kerri Strung's first vault routine, she badly injured her ankle and had to be carried off the mats. But in order for her team to have a chance at the gold, she had to do a second vault routine. And she did! Even with her injured ankle, she still carried out the vault perfectly, running through the pain and sticking the landing on both feet flawlessly. She then had to be carried to the medals podium by her coach.
I think it's pretty amazing that Kerri was able to compete even when she was so injured. Any other person could have just said "No. I just can't do it." She showed real determination and true Olympic spirit.

"I did it!" The man gasped in a heavy french accent. Detective Jones was shocked that he'd gotten a confession so easily, and the man under him noticed. "Yes, thats right." the man said, "I pushed the fruit trolly and killed 9 people." "Why?" asked Jones in confusion. The man's face darkened, "None of your business." he snapped, "You filthy police think you can just barge in on other peoples lives and jump on them like this...." he trailed off. It seemed that the french man was a bit crazy, the detective thought. The man interupted his thoughts with a swift punch to the face, which knocked Jones off him and the man made a run for it.

When Jones had recovered from the punch, he looked up in time to see the man disappear around the corner. The detective quikly picked up his radio and called for back-up. "Man running down Lawrence Lane, code 3, code 3. Proceed with caution, he has already killed 9 people today... hand cuff him. I'll be right behind on foot. Go, go!" He then sprinted around the corner, seeing his partner stuggling to keep the man contained, he slipped the hand cuffs around the man's wrist, and pronounced clearly, "You are under arrest, you have the right to remain silent but anything you say will be used in court. State your name, please." "David Kipper," he said, a slow smile spreading accross his face. The detectives eyes widdened as he recognised the name. It seemed he had the FBI's most wanted under his care.

3 day episode idea-

My idea is to have a 3 day ep where you can just watch movies for three days. We  could watch various genres and write a small reflection on each one... eg the theme of the movie was...
It would cost $2 to rent out the movies and people could just bring their own popcorn. The  independant learing qualities would be creativity, joy, wise.

short story-

I slowly inched down the accelerator. Faster, faster. It felt so good to just loose myself in the speed, the glimpse of snow coated tees as they blurred together. I basked in the thrill of shooting along the road, a mere meter away from the dangerous wall of rock and the rough sea repeatedly smashing itself into the sharp rocks. I pushed my little car to go faster, to make me forget their whispers, their subtle glances. I cranked up the radio as my car devoured the frosty road. As I pressed harder on the pedal, the white lines passed by faster, until they were just flashes of light on the dark gravel. I was trying to escape their taunts, my memories, wishing I could take back my mistake.  They say you should learn from your mistakes, but what was I supposed to have learned from this? That my friends were actually selfish jerks who only liked me because of my amazing parties and sharp wit? I’m sorry, but maybe that was something I just didn’t want to ‘learn.’

I wondered what would happen if I slipped, if I lost control over my little car and went tumbling over the barriers to my death. I imagined the unfortunate person that would stumble upon my smoking car and see my lifeless body, sprawled on my battered seat, with the seatbelt that had failed to save my life still strapped across my body. I imagined my family, anxiously sitting around the kitchen table, not daring to think the worst, but suspecting it anyway. I wondered who would have to be the one to tell my parents that their only daughter was dead. I imagined my parents trying to explain to my confused little brother that he was never going to see his big sister again, that she was in heaven, with grandpa.

I wondered who would break down while choosing an outfit to wear to my funeral, who would block their ears, so they wouldn’t hear the dull thud of the lid being closed over my body, forever gone. I imagined my boyfriend, Matt, swearing to never love again, in front of all my family and friends. I wondered who would burst into tears when they saw my cold, lifeless shell lying in a bed of flowers. I wondered who would have to dress up my corpse with my favourite dress and put makeup on my expressionless face, to give it the hopeless illusion of life. I imagined the newspaper headlines, the news stories. I wondered if my high school would have a mandatory memorial assembly, where people who had never even said a word to me would talk about how much they’d miss me, while the rest of the school just wanted to get out of the stuffy gym. I wondered where I’d be buried, if people would stay to watch them throw the cold dirt over my casket, and know that I was gone for good, never coming back. I imagined my final resting place, the muddy dark brown soil, holding my lifeless remains in a cold embrace, forever. I wondered who would know to put down white peonies, my favourite flowers, on my grave. I wondered who would smile fondly when they saw the goofy pictures of me in the school yearbook. I imagined my mum, finally picking up the courage to venture into my room, laughing and crying when she saw my unmade bed and discarded clothes all over the floor.  I wondered if anyone would even take the time to visit my grave, or if I would be forgotten, just another silly teenager driving too fast.

Lost in my thoughts, I didn’t see the thick ice coating the road ahead, or the temporary flashing lights telling me to ‘slow down.’ I realised how stupid I’d been, of course people still loved me, my family, my friends. Just because I was going through a hard time doesn’t mean I want to die. But by then it was too late, I felt the car spinning out of my control and on instinct I slammed down the breaks and sealed my fate.  My car skidded wildly across the ice, and all my panicked attempts to stop what was about to happen were useless. My car slid through the road barriers as if they weren’t even there and then I was falling. Falling through the salty air, and into the ocean's waiting arms. I didn’t have enough time to feel scared. My car struck the surface of the ocean, and I felt the jolt travel its way all through my body. Everything went black.

And then I died.

other blogs-

I don't follow any blogs, so I just looked through other peoples blogs in the class.

Maria's English Blog:
I read my friend Maria's blog, which she writes on weekly for her English homework, when her teacher posts the homework on the year 10 English blog. I really liked Maria's blog because there is a variety of things on it. Oh, and I really love the background picture of Onemana.

Lala's English Work:
I looked at Lauren's blog as well. She also writes on her blog weekly for English homework. I really liked her photo essay on Hawaii and her very colourful background.

Breanna's English:
I read my friend Breanna's blog, too. She blogs her English homework every week as well. I enjoyed reading her book review because I have read that book as well. I also loved her layout and colours.

Teigans English Homework:
And lastly, I read my friend Teigan's blog. She also writes on her blog every week for her English homework. I loved the photo essay of gymnasts, it is so amazing to see how flexible they are.

reflection on term 1

I think my first term in year 10 has gone really fast. I don't know where the time's gone! I really enjoyed pretty much all my classes because I have friends in every single class, so that makes it fun. I've never really liked maths, but this term it hasn't been so bad... The most challenging class was definitely science because there's so much to learn, and it's all new. I loved food tech, because I love to eat! I think I did well on all my home learning assessments. I enjoyed creating this blog for english because it forced me to be creative. Overall, this term's been a blast, but when I think back on it, it's all just a blur!

Kony-

Joseph Kony is the head of a Ugandan guerrilla group called the LRA or Lords Resistance Army. He says he is the spokesperson for god. Initially, he had public support, the LRA turned on its own supporters, aiming to 'purify' the Acholi people and turn Uganda into a theocracy. Kony claims to be a spokesperson of god and a medium of the Holy Spirit, which the group beliefs comes in many forms. They are aiming to achieve a state based on the Ten Commandments and local Acholi customs. He ordered the abduction of children and made them into child soldier and child sex-slaves, feeding them propaganda and making them kill their own parents. An estimated 66, 000 children have been turned into child soldiers and 2 million people have been 'displaced' since 1986. In 2005, Kony was arrested for war crimes, but has evaded capture.

The Ugandan military has attempted to kill Kony, but he is in hiding. In the latest attempt to track him down, former LRA members have been unlisted to search remote areas in the places he has been last seen. The USA army has been helping with the manhunt. their goal to help regional forces to remove Kony and senior LRA leaders. A group called Invisible Children inc have brought on a surge of awareness throughout the world when they released a video called Kony 2012 on the Internet. The film by Jason Russel is intended to bring attention to the manhunt for Kony in an effort to increase the involvement of the US. The video has been viewed over 80 million views as of March 17.

My opinion is that what Kony has been doing definitely has to be stopped, if it's all true, of course. I mean, its easy to put together a video that portrays one thing, but really is only a series of lies or propaganda. I think you should base your opinion on personal beliefs and how much trust you are willing to put into a video that is on the Internet and made by strangers. I think the video seems sincere and I don't think anyone could lie about something so serious.

book reveiw-

I read The Hunger Games, the first book in a trilogy of teen novels by Suzanne Collins .Its set in a county called Panem, which is in North America. Every year the council forces its citizens to take part in the hunger games: a gruesome fight, where two 'tributes' (a girl and a boy) from each district in Panem are forced to fight to the death. The carnage is broad casted on national TV, with the families of the tributes forced to watch. Its entertainment for some, but for the districts who have to give up two of their children, its a reminder of the power of the council, and to never try to rebel ever again.

The book is about Katniss Everdeen, from district 12, a poor coal mining district in Panem. She bravely volunteers to take part in the hunger games, instead of her 12-year-old sister Prim. She and her co-tribute, Peeta, become unwilling Friends, when they know that in the end one of them is going to have kill the other. There is much confusion in the arena.

They start to play out an on-screen romance, in order to win over the audience and get sponsors. Playing to be star-crossed lovers turns out to be an effective strategy, but what happens when the cameras stop rolling? When the gamekeepers announce that two people from the same district can survive, she hurries to Peter's side to nurse him back to health.

I would rate this book 10/10 because it was very original and it kept me up all night, because of all the suspense.

#2- creative writing

I'm hungry. So hungry. My little sister, Sophie, and I are having what we call a hollow day, where no matter how much food we can find, it still can't fill us up. I'm picking through the scraps of some fancy restaurant for food. It looks like the rubbish truck just came through so there is nothing edible in sight. With Sophie waiting for me back at our home in the woods, I know I can't go back empty handed. So, taking a deep breath, I crept into the kitchen through the back door and took two massive burgers from the counter. There's no way I'd be able to eat half of one of these, so these should last a long time. Sophie will be delighted, she loves burgers. I practically skip through the woods, I'm so happy with my catch. After half an hour of walking, I arrive at the hut. It took a week to perfect our home in the woods, but we did it. The hut is made of tree branches, leaves and mud. I used to love making huts with my parents in the woods behind our house. But I can never do that again. They're dead.

"Sophie!" I yell. She bursts through the trees around our small clearing. Sophie is the cutest little thing in the world. She's tiny, with long, blond ringlets, which are dirty and knotted right now but they're beautiful when clean. But she has hard lines on her face and the sad eyes, from everything we've been through. She's nine years old, only three years younger than me. Our parents died in a car crash and now we're running away from our crazy uncle, who wants to adopt us. He broke my arm when I was 5 because I spilled his beer. He's a good liar so even my parents didn't believe me, when I insisted I didn't jut fall over. I know he's very persuasive, so he'd definitely get custody. I took off with Sophie into the woods, just for a little while, until I can think up a better plan.

Anyway, when Sophie and I finish our burgers, we curl up in the hut to go to sleep, as its dark. Sophie has the gift of falling straight asleep as soon as she lies down. But for me, it takes a lot of tossing and turning for a comfortable spot and even then I can't seem to sleep. Frustrated, I get up to go outside. The stars are so bright out here, it feels like daylight and the moon is so big, I could reach out and touch it. I wonder about my parents, where the are, if they're watching over us. That's what I'm thinking about as I fall asleep under the stars...

I wake up drenched in sweat and to the smell of... smoke? Smoke! I jump up.
 "Sophie? Sophie!"  I scream.
I'd heard horrible stories about the forest fires in this area but they were only supposed to happen about once every 5 years.
"what? What is it?" My little sister asked.
"It's a fire!" I yelled, "C'mon lets get our of here."
She nodded, looking alert. Just then, I see an endless wall of fire raging toward us, the wind pushing the wave of fire, urging it on. I know it's hopeless now. I know it's too late for Sophie and I, but that doesn't mean I won't try. I grab my sisters hand and sprint away from the fire, but it keeps flying toward us, swallowing anything in its path. I can feel the blistering heat it gives off, but I keep running, keep trying. I can't breath, the smoke is suffocating me. I'm helpless and so is Sophie. This is something I can't protect her from. We are going to die and there won't be anyone to morn us. Sophie and I stop at the same time, but we don't turn toward our death. We face each other. She looks so brave. At that moment, she is my anchor. The fire crashes onto us, like a wave, and miraculously, I don't feel any pain. I feel free. I know Sophie and I are finally going to be with our parents.

#1 -my holidays...

In the holidays, I travelled in a caravan around the East Cape with my mum, dad, sister and brother. The East Cape region takes its name from the at the northern-eastern end of east land, New Zealand and it's just above Gisborne. It has lots of windy roads but has beautiful scenery of the beach, especially up on the hills. The east cape is the place where Captain Cook first landed in New Zealand, he even named the place he landed the Bay of Plenty because Maoris that greeted him were so generous.

We travelled there from Ohope, which took about three hours. We stayed at a campsite in Te Aaroa, which was about 5 minutes from the beach. My favourite thing about the camp was that  there were hundreds of horses surounding the campsite. After 5 days, we drove to another place called Anaura Bay and took lots of day trips from there. My favourite thing about that campsite was the water. We stayed there for 7 days because it was so beautiful. After that we went to another campsite right in the middle of Gisborne. Then we drove home through Rotorua and it took 7 hours. I really enjoyed all the sun, water and sand!
